General Studies

All students in the Sixth Form at Camp Hill follow a General or Critical Thinking course to AS Level in Year 12. In Year 13 they have the option to continue these to a full A2 qualification or to take an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

General Studies allows students to develop a breadth as well as a depth of knowledge, and to examine current issues and concepts beyond the confines of their Advanced Level subjects.

General Studies involves developing skills of interpretation, logical and critical thinking, analysis of information in a variety of forms, communication of ideas and opinions, appreciation of different points of view, and understanding of the nature of different types of knowledge.

Students may find themselves discussing current issues, watching and analysing videos, evaluating opinions in different newspapers or magazine articles, taking part in role plays, or listening and questioning visiting speakers who are experts in their field.
Topics covered vary from year to year according to the issues of current concern. In 2011-12 we studied Culture & Society and Science & Society which included exploring topics such as the Leveson enquiry, equality, genetic engineering and the arts, to name but a few.
