| This course
allows you to study both Economics and Business Studies together
giving you the advantage of a grounding in both subjects, and the
opportunity to specialise in areas that interest you.
We study issues including:
- what should the state provide?
- why do people work?
- what makes a marketing campaign successful?
- how can we encourage firms to be responsible towards the environment?
No previous subject knowledge is required, just an open mind, an
interest in current affairs and an eagerness to learn more about
the world around you.
You will: participate in class discussions, make presentations
to the group, analyse data, undertake mini-projects and investigations,
evaluate case studies, practise essays and data response questions
and use IT independently both in and out of lessons. You will develop
vital skills of analysis and evaluation, and develop an effective
writing style. There is an opportunity to specialise with an individual
research topic of your choosing in the coursework option.
The course is assessed through written examination papers including
data response and essay style questions.
Visits are organised to a variety of industries, KPMG and Goldman Sachs and Accountancy VIth form conferences.
Students have also been successful in competitions including a Dragon's Den style inter-schools business competition run by ICAEW.
In addition to Economics and Business Studies, students pursue
university courses including: management, law, accountancy and finance,
journalism, politics and many others. Career options could include
management in a wide variety of industries including law, finance,
journalism and retail.
