| All students in the Sixth Form at Camp Hill follow a General Studies course, or a course in Critical Thinking.
General Studies allows students to develop a breadth as well as a depth of knowledge, and to examine current issues and concepts beyond the confines of their Advanced Level subjects.
General Studies involves developing skills of interpretation, logical and critical thinking, analysis of information in a variety of forms, communication of ideas and opinions, appreciation of different points of view, and understanding of the nature of different types of knowledge.
Students are taught in small groups. They may find themselves discussing current issues, watching and analysing videos, evaluating opinions in different newspapers or magazine articles, taking part in role plays, or listening and questioning visiting speakers who are experts in their field.
Topics covered vary from year to year according to the issues of current concern. In 2008-2009 we studied themes of U.K. and European politics, asylum seekers and refugees, genetic engineering, changes in agriculture, recycling, law and order, art, music and film appreciation, religion and society, the press and the media. All students are entered for the AQA AS and A2 examinations.
