Physics seeks to explain our fascinating world and universe. Helping us to understand the very smallest - particles that make up protons - and the very largest - the universe itself!

The skills developed are transferable to a huge range of careers so physics is highly regarded. Physics underpins the technology changing our family life and life in our global village.

Our laboratories are well equipped, modern and very attractive. Our girls think it is cool to be interested in physics. Lessons are purposeful, fun and very constructive with not a hint of disruptive behaviour. Lessons begin with a clear idea of what you will be trying to achieve. Well trained friendly physics teachers will help you to understand ideas using power point diagrams, photos, video clips, demonstrations and practical work. There are lots of opportunities to ask questions, clarify your notes and discuss ideas with your friends. A great subject if you enjoy problem-solving, like to discover why things happen and have a reasonable mathematical ability.

At KS3 we follow the Cambridge “Spectrum Science” course, KS4 and 5 the AQA Physics GCSE, AS and A2. Physics is taught as a separate subject for all students from year 9 to 11. Topics range from electricity and the nucleus to the galaxies in space. We see how everyday devices operate from spectacles to spacecraft or consider how our use of energy is impacting on the way our atmosphere and oceans work.

The new KS4 course has a particular emphasis on how science works.

Older student often go with friends to evening talks at Birmingham University on a variety of fascinating topics. Younger students enjoy our science club.
