Psychology is a lively, popular and exciting subject taught in the V1 Form at AS and A2. We follow the OCR Syllabus. The AS specification covers fifteen core studies that have shaped the subject over the years and at A2 we are currently specialising in Health and Criminal psychology.
As well as acquiring psychological knowledge, students develop a wide range of new and existing skills. In both stages of the course there is an emphasis on practical work encouraging independent research and data analysis. The department very much believes in personal research and being independent learners. This is encouraged through research-based lessons, using a variety of texts and web searches.
Lessons often have lively and occasionally controversial debates with all such discussions adhering to a code of ethics where everyone has the right to express an opinion. Teaching styles vary from seminar/lecture to student group presentations. There is the chance for visual depiction of knowledge as well as role-play.
At Camp Hill students enjoy psychology not just because of what they learn in the lesson, but because they learn a lot about themselves and the society they will enter into.
