We have highly qualified staff in our schools who have been trained as subject and professional mentors for the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP).
As a Recommending Body (RB) we are authorised to employ unqualified graduates as teachers, and provide them with all of the training they need to meet the National Standards for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
We arrange for our trainees to be employed by one of the schools in the partnership and will arrange the second placement in another of our schools. We provide our trainees with a comprehensive, high-quality training programme. Most of the core training will take place at The King Edward’s Foundation Resources Centre on Edgbaston Park, adjacent to Birmingham University.
Trainees are supported in school by Subject Trainers and Professional Trainers. The Subject and Professional Trainers will draw up Individual Training Plans (ITP), and map out the opportunities for trainees to achieve all the Standards. The Trainers will observe the trainee’s lessons on a regular basis, provide feedback and set targets which will ensure that progress towards QTS is made. Our partnership schools are recognised as excelling in meeting the needs of their pupils. Within the schools of the RB, trainees can develop their professional competencies and become secure in their subject delivery, supported by experienced and successful teachers.
Our RB is made up of a diverse group of schools and offers trainees a range of teaching experiences which, we believe, other training bodies would not be able to match. Our schools provide trainees with the opportunity to experience the full pupil ability range, including special needs, and this will contribute significantly to the development of their knowledge and skills as teachers. Our major areas of teaching expertise are Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
We are recruiting graduates wishing to join the GTP in September 2009. To apply for a place on our GTP programme you would first need to complete our application form. We will send further details about the interview process to those applicants who are selected for interview.
Please email rep@kegschg.bham.sch.uk, or telephone the Schools of King Edward the Sixth Foundation Office on 0121 472 1147 if you have any questions about the programme or our Consortium.
