The Chamber Choir and Orchestra enjoyed a highly successful Concert Tour to Northern Spain from 18th -26th July.
We visited two medieval centres, Burgos and Salamanca giving concerts in beautiful Baroque churches all with superb acoustics.
40 musicians, 4 staff: Miss Hawthorne, Miss Meredith, Mrs Hagyard and Mrs Todd, 2 coach drivers: Tony and
Chris from Goodes of Wednesbury and Nacio Piqueras, our local Spanish representative made up the concert team which gave 4 very well-received concerts to a combined audience of nearly 1,000 people! We were especially
pleased to see Mr Clear at one of our concerts –he was holidaying in the area!
The programme featured English repertoire – Elgar, Holst, Elizabethan madrigals, Rutter anthems –along with
instrumental music by Vivaldi and Mozart. Our talented soloists included Sarah Clear (Vivaldi Bassoon concerto);
Suzanne Hewings (Mozart Clarinet concerto); Gayatri Raghuram (Mozart aria) and Frankie Arnull/Ellie
Parkes (Vivaldi duet). The musical standard was consistently high and the musicians are to be congratulated on
their committed and confident performing along with their loyalty in the months of preparation leading up to the
Tour.
There was plenty of opportunity to see the sights and sample the local cuisine although some of us enjoyed seafood
paella more than others!
The sun shone and the Spaniards clapped enthusiastically at all our performances – a great time was had by all!
