On Thursday 12th February a group of Year 7, 8 and 10 students went to the Town Hall to collect an Environmental Award on behalf of the School. The award was received by the Year 10 Eco-representatives and the Year 7 and 8s who participated in the Climate Change workshops earlier this year.
On arrival at the Town Hall we sat at tables with our schools. There were nine schools present and Birmingham’s Youth Parliament and one by one we went up on stage to do a short presentation on our achievements and goals. We talked about our Climate Change workshop and what each year group has planned for the coming year. After we finished our presentation we received our certificate from the Lord Mayor and had our photograph taken.
Then we each received an envelope with a topic and split into groups-each group having a representative from every school. There were topics such as Graffiti, Travel, Chewing Gum and Wildlife. We had one hour to discuss this with a professional.
After a lunch of fair-trade food provided by the Co-op, we had a talk about fairtrade products. We really enjoyed the day and came away with some good ideas to put into practice at school.
