Before Christmas I went to the trials for the England Talent Synchronised Swimming Squad. They chose 12 of us
for a competition called the Comen Cup that takes place in Belgrade, Serbia in August, but only the top eight will
get into the team with two reserves. The other two would be non-travelling reserves. I have been training really
hard to try to get into the team. I have to do speed swimming to build up my stamina, synchro practice and also
land training like running and flexibility. It is very hard work with school, homework and my music practice – but I
really enjoy it. Every two weeks I go for a training camp at Manchester Aquatic Centre where we practise the
routine; we sometimes spend four hours swimming in the diving pool which is 5.1 metres deep so we can’t put our
feet down!
A couple of weeks ago I found out that I had been chosen to be in the team going to Serbia and I am very excited .
In July we have to go for a 2 week camp to Aldershot High Performance Centre which is an army camp – so we get
to stay at the barracks. We fly out to Belgrade in August. The Comen Cup has countries like Russia, USA, Greece
and Spain competing, so it is going to be a great experience. Russia are an incredible team, so I am looking forward
to being able to watch them and compete against them.!
