photographic competition:

‘Age Snapped’ was a competition celebrating Older Peoples’ day through photography, and at the end of year 10, art students entered the competition with photos which they had taken of people over 50 in their lives who inspired them. Schools, photography students and organisations from around the country entered photographs, so everyone was overawed that the winner of the competition, Georgia Morris 11W, as well as seven other exhibiters were chosen from Camp Hill! So on Thursday the 1st of October, eight Camphillians, a hand-full of parents and a few grandparents met at Birmingham International Station to travel to the London College of Design and Communication for the exhibition. When we finally reached the galleries, it hit us that the event was quite big a deal. Angela Eagle, the Minister of State for Pensions and the Ageing Society, personally awarded Georgia Morris a signed plaque. The rest of us also received signed plaques. It came as a surprise, especially to some of the parents to find that Joan Bakewell was also at the exhibition! The organisers of the evening were extremely impressed with the school’s performance in the competition (8 out of the 19 displayed photos were from Camp Hill!) that they made us another offer of a master class in Photography, and use of a studio for a whole day for us to improve our photography skills! We would all like to say a big thank you to Miss Stevens for organising the trip and for getting us to enter the competition in the first place, without whom we wouldn’t have had such an enjoyable afternoon.
